Is there any adhesive that can be used to temporarily be used to hold a transducer in a in the hull instillation?

you can use any marine adhevsive for temp installs. don't use 5200 though, that's more of a premanent solution.

For testing purposes put the transducer inside a ziploc baggie full of water. It works quite well.

Thank you both. I will try both methods. I want the option for changing to a different transducer mount later without having to destroy the original transduce to remove it.
Woiuld 4200 or silicon absorp too much signal?

You need something that will transmit sound, i.e. hard. Using 4200 or silicon would be like putting ear muffs on your transducer

Re: Temporary in hull transducer.

Larry,

I followed the instructions in my manual which said to fill part of the transom with water and place the tranducer in the water. I also took the transducer and placed it over the side of the boat in a known body of water before installing it into the bilge. I got the same kind of reception.

I got some marine grade slow cure epoxy and mixed it up. I found a spot right under the engine where there were no other big wires like the starter cable or hot pipes. I put the epoxy down on the bottom and pressed the transducer into it with a slight twist to get any air bubbles out.

It works great, except the water temp is always higher because it is reading the ambient temperature of the engine compartment instead of the water.
