Tempset Plus PVS Question

Anyone run a Tempest Plus with the PVS holes completely open? The reason I ask is because My 86 Procraft 1750V Fish & Ski is a dog out of the hole even with the size "L" PVS plug. When I had it on the water for the initial test run, I did not think to completely remove them and give it a try. If you guys think it is worth a shot, please let me know. I just want to make sure there is no danger with having too large of a vent hole.

FYI, my Procraft is powered by a 1986 Merc 150 XR2 and the Tempest Plus is a 23P.

Thanks.

5600 RPM on the top end. Engine stalls badly between idle and 3000RPM. My old uicksilver prop comes out of the hole hard so I know it's not an engine issue.

I was more concerned with a set-up issue...wanted to make sure we weren't short on top which leaves us short on bottom.
I do have a procraft here-same boat and engine-swinging a 21P Laser around 5700 and very little, in any problem, getting out of the hole.
From my testing data, I also see the Tempest working better on 200hp+ installations on bassboat-type hulls.
You can sure try it with no plug fittings and see what it does.

Re: Tempset Plus PVS Question

I am running the 23p Tempest on a 2007 Stratos 486SF with a 150 Mercury EFI. I am also noticing that my hole shot is a little sluggish, but not enough to worry with. I am going to try the different vent plugs once I get it back next week to see if it will help. I am not aware of it hurting anything if you run the prop with no vent plugs. I will be interested to see how it goes for you.

The problem I have is that my max RPM's are suppose to be between 5000 - 5500 Rpm's and this prop throws me to 5600.

Removing the plugs completely made a huge difference and I am satisfied with the holeshot. I hit 62MPH around 5900RPM with just me in the boat. Prop shaft is 5" below the pad so I may play around with engine height in the future but I am happy with it as is:D
