Terrova 55 I-Pilot problem

I have a 4 week old Terrova 55 that started doing strange things yesterday. When using any of the features that used the GPS system the motor would start spinning counterclockwise uncontrolably. If I didn't stop it, I think it would keep going untill the wires twisted off.
A call to Minnkota was a waste of time. All they said was you have to take it to a service center. Just what I want to hear about a $1250.00 motor when the nearest shop is an hour away. I'm still trying to contact him.
I was wondering if anyone here has had a similar problem with their motor and was it a quick fix? I love this trolling motor and I'm going to go crazy waiting for it to get fixed. Thanks.

Re: Terrova 55 I-Pilot problem

I just got ahold of the repair shop. I have to bring the motor in and he will replace the I-Pilot. Should be a quick while I wait repair. I've dealt with this shop in the past and the work has always been great. Tony's Reel Repair in Orchard Park, NY.

Sorry to hear that man. I have an I-Pilot on my list. I am getting the 70lb. thrust Rip Tide so I can use it in estuaries, and the bay without any salt issues. At least when it gets fixed you will be back on the ball. Man the more complex stuff gets the more we have to worry about.

Hi Guys,
Known issue here (previous post here) If you are moving along when you put it in spot lock the gps sends false signals to the controller. Why Minn Kota didn't tell you I don't know. You may have a real problem but try stopping for a few seconds before you spot lock. Good Luck!

Unfortunatly the motor spins out of control when using any feature that uses the GPS. Yes, if you don't stop before using the Spot Lock feature, the motor will spin, sometimes almost a full rotation before stopping. The next rotation has usually been in the opposite direction unwinding the cord. The repair guy said there have been a few issues with the system. The parts should be here tomorrow or Tuesday. All I'll lose is about 4 hours time. I can't wait to get back on the water with it. I really like the motor.
