Re: Terry bass boat 460 CM
Does anyone know how I can find out the motor rating for this boat. It is a 1979. Thanks for any help!
The 460cm was one of our hulls designed by Gar Wood Jr.. His dad worked with Sir Malcolm Cambell on the "Bluebird" which, at one time, held the world's water speed record. The 460 was Coast Guard approved for 70hp. It was introduced for the 1977 model year. The fellow on this forum who said he put a 150 Merc on his either didn't open it up very often or at all. It has a 3 stringer bottom and the weight of a 150, plus the torque would have most likely ripped the transom off the boat. Were he to open it up to full throttle in even a 4" chop, if the transom did hold it would very likely swap ends and flip. Not only because of the speed, but the high center of gravity and weight of the big Merc, plus the wind speed under the light hull.
Our boats were not only Coast Guard approved, but also certified by the BIA. Each one has a BIA tag that shows the HP rating. This is required by BIA and our manufacturing liability insurance company.
