Some of the troubleshooting I need to do involves bringing the engine up to 4500 RPM's to test the voltage output of some charging components. I was hoping to put my engine in a barrel of water to do this since I don't think the muffs could keep up at this RPM. However, I read in another post that you should not rev-up your engine in nuetral as it can cause damage. So my question is, if I put it in gear at that RPM won't the barrel be pushed away, or will the water blow out, etc?

If it's on the trailer, take it to the lake and back it in on a weekday(Less crowded) until the water pick-ups are just underwater and run it up, making sure all tiedowns are tight to the trailer, of course.

Or you could get a test wheel. I believe that there are some for sale on ebay at the moment.

Good luck
Steve

Re: Test Barrel

I saw a few on Ebay, but most were for lower powered engines. I have an 89 OMC 2.0 liter seadrive. Anyone know the part number I need?

A horse trough will work if you can find one. They are long and will work...

Re: Test Barrel

Mike, Is that not the same thing as running in neutral with no load on the motor? Possible runaway condition...
