I have an 85’ 40hp VRO. I am not getting fuel to the carburetors unless I pump the bulb. The check valve in the pump side seems to be OK and no leaks were apparent on the motor side. I disassembled the fuel pump and the rubber parts were supple and without cracks, checks or, holes to 3x mag.. I put my finger over the pressure/vacuum hose and spun the engine not detecting much of either. How can I be sure that a fuel pump is what I need?

Thurps....does the pump have a wire harness coming from it?

Re: test fuel pump

if you have no pulse from the motor its time to get the compression checked.
if you have low compression on that cylinder that pulsates the fuel pump you wil not have good strong pulse going to your pump.

good luck

Re: test fuel pump

Thanks gentlemen; Found a split on backside of hose when I went to check the port. I really appreciate the advice.
