Hello again forum. Volvo penta 125b engine. I have it out of boat and on a solid stand. I can put a wrench on the flywheel and turn over the engine. All seems fine. Question:

* I am thinking I can put the starter into its position and hook up power via jumper cables and turn over the engine. I am trying to run some test on the engine. My goal is to actually crank it before I install into boat. I have taken starter to a local shop and it tested fine. I am waiting on a new manifold for it. Before I start it I will be sure to confer with this forum for directions on safely starting (cooling, water, oil, ect).

Hope to hear from many.

Ayuh,... I don't see anything wrong with your plan,...
I've test run motors from a Briggs 5hp, to 400hp Caterpillars sitting on their base,+ alittle Blockin'...
They might vibrate,+ dance alittle, but there's No torque loads, til you bolt it to something....

Plumb in the fuel,+ water,... power the Igntion, then start it...

I always run engine before installing them back in the boat. But I don't think I would try to run one on an engine stand. To high off the ground and unstable.
I usually just set them on thier motor mounts on blocks on the floor.
Kind of like this.
