Need some help here...trying to see if I started I bought used works....I took some jumper cables and connect from my car battery to the motor....it is getting 12.86 volts....I connected both the hot and ground wires.
ok this is nagging at me.....i tried testing the starter and could not get it to spin....took to auto parts store and they said it was fine???? Any suggestions on what I could be doing wrong. I am taking a normal set of car jumper cables...connecting hot to the bottom screw on the starter and connect that to hot side of battery....connecting ground to battery and to grounding block on the starter.....i am measuring 12.86 volts at the starter with my multimeter...what am I missing?
Sometimes it takes a 'strike' across the terminal to get the solenoid to engage. Try not to hook it up direct, but touch it with your jumper. Hope that helps
It sounds like you are connecting the +12VDC side of the battery to the starter solenoid, instead of the starter. Is that possible? Are you working on a MerCruiser?
