Can I do this with a regular digital multimeter with the resistance setting? If so how do I do it and what should the resistance be? I saw a good deal on a dwell meter but it does not have a setting for points.Thanks-Blair

Re: Testing points

If you suspect the points to be bad, replace them. Dwell meter is used for correct gap and timing.

With the points closed the resistance should be zero. With them open it should be infinity. But that's not the full story... There are other factors aside from just resistance.
