I have read online when testing the rectifier if you connect ohm meter to ground and touch the rectifier leads you should only get a reading one way...my problem is I only seem to get a reading of 10.2 from the gray tach wire. I touch the leads to the yellow plug either side, and nothing happens also from ground to the red wire nothing. Should I be getting a reading on the plug? and from the red wire? Is my rectifier toast? thanks guy. I'm lost here. Also it looks like someone put silicone under the rectifier would doing this mess with it grounding at all? I'm sure its a gasket just checking thanks again.

What year is your motor? Some motors have voltage regulators, some have rectifers only and some have both.

In general, with the motor running, you should get an AC voltage across the two yellow wires. The red wire and ground should give you a DC voltage reading higher than 13V.

It is a 1995 johnson 150 the model for the rectifier is 585219 35 amp. should i not have ohm readings only one way as described on here and all over the net? basically they are all showing open circuits I have not started the engine yet this year trying to wait until it's a little warmer.

Please stick to one post with the same problem !!! It's less confusing. Read the rules at the top of the forum.
