The starter on my 1984 Evinrude 115 wont generate enough power to start the motor. After discussing it here and with some other people, I believe it is either corroded battery cables or the brushes in the starter itself. My question is: I heard there is a way to hook a jump box up directly to the starter. If this is true how do I do I hook the jump box up directly to the starter?

Just get a fully charged 12 volt source(cranking battery) with jumper cables and connect the ground(-) to engine block and the pos(+) to the output terminal of the starter solenoid.Just be careful and keep fingers clear of flywheel. If she don't turn over, the starter is likely culprit. This is assuming the cable from the solenoid to starter terminal is making good contact.

Have you tested the solenoid? See '75 Johnson 115hp...starting problems post....
