motor is a 65 65hp merc...I am only pushing 12.45 volts when running? ??I am thinking it isn't charging rght ....what ohm should staor read testing two yellow wires seloc manual doesn't say for this motor ...It has a old recticier wich I think is bad but numbers are wore off so I can't tell terminals is what just the red wire n two yellows what's the best easiest test to do ...serial number is 180456 ???any suggestions is appreciated...I know some of the motors idon't charge batt ...anyone know if that's the case ???

You can easily test the rectifier if you have a DVM meter or suitable OHM meter. First remove the two yellow wires to the rectifier. Then take the DVM and select the OHMs scale. Now take the red lead from the meter and touch one of the yellow wires attached or going to the rectifier (one at a time of course) and the black lead from the meter to the red lead going to the rectifier also. Did you get any reading on the OHMs scale? Now touch the other yellow wired terminal with the red meter lead. Did you get a reading there also? Are those two reading about equal? If you don't get any readings from either yellow wired terminal, your rectifier is bad and needs replaced because your rectifier is blown open. If you did get a reading now swap the meter leads around (black meter lead to the first yellow wire and red meter lead to the red wire to the rectifier). Do you read anything now? If you get a reading in this directions the same are before for either terminal your rectifier is bad. But if you only read a reading in one direction for both tests then the rectifier is good... Sounds more difficult than it actually is... What you are seriously doing is seeing if the meter reads only in one direction for either yellow to red wire. Both have to read the same direction but not read when you reverse the meter leads. Picture the rectifier as a one way valve...because that is exactly what the rectifier does. It allows voltage to flow only in one direction. If you can read in both directions your rectifier is shorted and needs replaced... If you don?t get any readings in either direction your rectifier is also bad and needs replaced. It is only supposed to read in one direction but for both leads in the same direction too.
