Can I effectively test my temp switches on my 1979 Evinrude 140 via an ohm meter? When I took the head covers off and removed them, they appeared to be in great shape. Thanks.........ALAN

At room temperature, using an ohmmeter, it should read open circuit. When immersed in 180 degree water they should show closed circuit. Don't let the sensor touch the bottom of the pan. Just immerse it.

Re: Testing temperature switches?

Thanks........... Prior to inserting the sensors back in the heads, can I put anything in there to help prevent corrosion and/or rust? Or is this idea not a good one. I know the gasket sealing compound will be there to help prevent moisture from entering the holes in which they are inserted. I'm just thinking of added insurance to prolong the life of the sensors. At $55 per sensor, one needs to consider additional insurance!!! ....... d:) .........Thanks for the tip......................ALAN

If the sensors are you show are 1979 vintage, I would not worry about additional protection. They look fine.
