Re: testing trim sender

The trim gauge is a volt meter and the sending unit is a variable resistor. You can use a volt meter in place of the gauge. If the voltage goes up and down as the engine is trimmed up and down, the sending unit is working.

c/6
Hooty

Re: testing trim sender

when i put the voltage meter in line i.e where the join is before contol lead i get a steady reading when i trim up and dowm.if the unit was working it should go up and dowm ?
but when i make a circuit out of the sender to test the resistance it goes up as the motor goes down and visa versa. somewhat confused

If the resistance chages when you operate the sender, then it's (the sender) okay. Check all the wiring connections for corrosion or looseyness. If they all look good, I'd suspect the gauge.

c/6
Hooty
