My boy had a close one Friday morning. He was on his way back to his apartment from his job when a drunk ran a red light and they collided. Eye witness accounts are than my son had the green light. The driver of the other car bailed out of the car and ran. According to the police report "The driver of vehicle 2 had blood all over him and he reeked of alcohol. When he stated he was OK he bolted and ran."

Kyle walked away from the wreck beat up. No broken bones only cuts (staples and stitches), scrapes and bruises.

Folks can say what they want about imported cars. This little car did what it was designed to do.

The first picture he sent me was from the scene of the accident and you could tell the car was torn up. When he sent these picture and I could see what yall are seeing...... I cried. To know how close it came. . . . .

Glad to hear that Kyle is ok! I have always been a fan of import cars, they have some of the highest safety ratings over the american cars. They also run forever!

Did they catch the drunk?

I have not talked to the PD where Kyle lives since late Friday afternoon and they had not at that time.

Well i hope they do/did. The world becomes a slightly safer place everytime a drunk is pulled off the roads.

Glad he is O.K. and will heal. The car is replaceable.

Ken, you are 101% correct!

I went up to Starkville and picked him up late Friday afternoon. He wanted to come home and his mamma wanted him home. He was moving around pretty good Friday afternoon. Saturday he was showing more signs of being sore. Come Sunday though, he came out of his bedroom here at the house limping, groaning and holding his right butt cheek. I asked him if he was hurting. He said he felt like he'd been beat with a couple baseball bats but his right butt cheek hurt worse than anything. I told him that was from the fire dept guys using a crow bar to pry the seat out of his hindside. He didnt think that was too funny.

Another thing he mentioned. He said all the air bags that deployed like to have beat him stupid. Half the bags in the car deployed. The curtain bag ( which you can see in the pics), the door bag, the steering wheel bag and the dash bag all deployed. He said the steering wheel bag hit him square in the face, the curtain bag smacked the side of his head, the door bag got him in the ribs and dash bag grazed his right side.

Ahh, great! Sounds like the airbags performed flawlessly.

I promise he'd rather get beat up by an airbag than have hit that steering wheel. You'd still be peeling his lifeless body from the dash had the bags not deployed.

I always love it when someone who climbs out of a mangled wreck complains about the airbags. The entire reason they are there is to make sure you can climb out and complain! :D

I forgot to mention.....He also has a pair of stripes from it too. One goes hip to hip and the other starts at his collar bone/side of his neck on his left side and runs diagonal across his chest down and meets the other stripe on his right hip ! !

He was wearing his belts!!

That is one heck of a wreck. Your son is one lucky fella to only get a few bumps and bruises.

Re: Thank God and Honda . . . . .

This is a big part of why I don't skimp when I buy a car. I am all for buying the cheapest car that is reliable as cars depreciate so fast. But I am not for buying cars that are unsafe or unreliable just to save a buck. I had to pay extra for the side airbags on my current car but I'm glad I did even if I never need them.

What's just as important here as the fact that your son is ok is that people who read this remember to buckle up and maybe don't have that third drink before you hit the road (although it's usually more than 3 whenever I read a story like this).

I'm glad your boy is ok. I'll think long & hard about which cars my kids end up with.

Skipper77, I want to reiterate that Kyle had not been drinking.

He'd just gotten off work. The other guy....the one that ran, left the scene of an accident with injuries is the person that had been drinking.

I know you didnt say he was drinking.

The only thing that matters is he is OK .. so glad to hear that . The Air Bag beating will go away in a few days . Small price to pay but much better than months of rehab from injuries .

GLAD TO HEAR ALL OK! Whew!

I had a similar one, a few years back.

Son #2 was driving his 2005 Ranger. He was sitting at a stop light-THIRD back.

The light turns green and all go, he was third. He gets T-boned by another compact p/u. He was hit hard enough to spin him around and throw him into a gas station lot 20 yards away. The hit was just forward of the drivers door.

The impact broke the cab loose from the frame but the cab was 100% intact and the safety systems (seat belt pretensioners/airbags) worked flawlessly.

The bad part of it was the woman that hit him was an illegal alien.

She had no insurance, no drivers license, no registration.

The Police Officer let her go. He said: "I cannot ticket someone that I have no idea who she is". She walked off and just left the wreck.

My insurance Co. fought me on the whole deal because of the NO documentation issue (Police Report).

Eventually, they paid after I told them to talk to the police-not me.

$11K in damages. It was very high end Ranger (Tremor). They fixed it. The dealer did a beautiful job. We put another 60K-trouble free- on that truck before we sold it.

Todays car/trucks are pretty safe.

What did he hit with the rear of the car, after it spun around?

Re: Thank God and Honda . . . . .

Talked to the Starkville PD officer that worked the wreck lastnight. They got the subject that was driving the other vehicle. Can you believe he turned himself in later in the day of the wreck. I figure he went home to sober up. We have a court date on May 17th.

I also found out that he's made application to MLEOTA (Mississippi Law Enforcement Officer Training Academey). I want to see to it that he never gets that opportunity.

No offense taken....try hitting a 20+ pound turkey at 65 mph ! Been there done that ! It got A post, side mirror and windshield on the driver side of my Z71 !
