As some of you might know, I recently bought a new to me boat. Being a
first time boat owner was a little daunting. I needed a whole bunch of
boating education and advice for some minor repairs including a rotted
floorboard that needed replacing.
Needless to say I was a little overwhelmed.
I spent 2 weeks reading these forums, and getting A LOT of great advice.
I finally was able to get the boat in the water this weekend and my
family and I had the quintessential perfect boating weekend. I was so
proud and happy that everything went perfect, the repairs where done
CORRECTLY and we had great weather to boot.
So, a big thank you to everyone who bothered to answer my newbie
questions and took the time to document their restorations and
repairs. I hope you don't take for granted how empowering your
sometime simple posts are to us just getting started.
Then literally after we had been in the water for a few hours this
happened to another boater.
Made all those "Stupid things boaters do" threads really hit home. All
those posts I had read about running the blowers for 5 minutes, using
a marine alternator, etc. rang true for me in a flash. Everyone on the
boat were OK but the boat was totaled.
So, to all you other first time boaters (and long timers) out there
reading these forums, take head to what you read here. It IS very
important and these people have years of experience that is worth more
than money.
