I posted a month ago about having a cracked lower unit.Someone recomended a SEI outdrive.I installed it this weekend. It runs fine , thank you.

Now I bought my 1991 20' Cheetah in Sept. it has a 350 ci / 260 Mercruiser(now SE106). I think there is a timing issue , it has been fitted with a automobile HEI distributer and 600 Holley carb. The problems is it will only run 35 mph,it will also not go over 3500 rpm.
Boat weighs 2200lbs,has a 21ss merc prop.(have also tried 19 prop).
Can this distrubiter be made to work in a boat?

Thank's for any and all help.

The auto unit will never be safe or legal and will not have the correct advance curve for a marine motor

I believe the distributor needs a screened vent hole, but you have to get that carb outta there.

Verify your advance with a gun. The module could be at fault...

I am assuming you meant it is an automotive carb, along with the distributor. Is it a marine carb?

Yes from the other work that has been done to this boat.It probably is for a auto application.( I will have to look when I get home)I just looked at Holley website,I think from what I read there I can fix the carb. Please keep the info coming it is very helpful.

Thanks !

You need to get rid of the auto carb. & dist., right now!
Both pose a risk of fire or explosion & will get you a big ticket if you are inspected by the Coast Guard....
