I went back in the recent threads to find out just who ave me the advice, I beleve one was roscoe and I cannot recall the rest for that I am deeply sorry! I posted on here about my 18 foot Sea Nymph with my 40hp Johnson, it had a 11 3/4 X17 on it and my rpms at wot were in the high 3000's and it ran like a dog......the sugesstion was made to try a 12 1/2 x 13 prop.... to get me in the 5000 rpm range and improve my overall performance. WOW what a blessed difference, I had the boat out saturday morning on the river and just jogging off the ramp I could tell it was better. When I finally got the chance to let the smoke out, it climbed right to 4900 and about 30 mph which in the last 2 years was unheard of....I had to look around to see if I was in the right boat LOL Here my question....do I need to fine tune it more to get into the 5100 rpm to 5300 rpm range that you all were talking about? Personally I am very happy with what I have at the moment but, on the flip side I want to do what is best for my engine. Any sugesstions?? Thanks in advance what a differnce!!!

If you know the RPM is accurate then decreasing the pitch would get you to your target RPM. There are many far more experienced people out here that will give you the best advice. This is just my opinion.

Since you obviously have been lugging your engine you are a prime candidate for decarbing.

Then, after the process has had time to clean things up, rethink whether you need more pitch correction to run the rpm's you need.

May be pleasantly surprised.

HUH.....thats a great thought...I am going to decarb this weekend and raise my outboard a bit? Give it a shot I am getting ready to buy a CMC power tilt and trim, because I have one of the step children assist lift cylinders. I wish I knew a better way? Any Ideas?

I take it you want the tilt and trim benefits. Maybe you could get away with the PT-35 model.

Another option is the 4" setback plates which are cheaper but would give you the option of playing with the height...
