Hello!
I am new to this Forum, but have been a lurker for a while. Recently, I took on a 1989 Force 85hp to repair. The gentleman complained of the engine not running right at full throttle or midrange without hitting the electric choke. So, I started by reading up on here to see what I could learn. Soon, I was ready to take a look. I pulled the carbs and cleaned them thoroughly. Then, I reinstalled them, noting some problems that were present before disassembly.
1-Lower carb port side nut was loose.
2-Main fuel supply line drawing air.
3-Carbs synced incorrectly.
4-Full throttle only opened butterflies 3/4 of the way.
5-Low speed jets adjusted incorrectly.

So, I spent the day correcting these issues. This evening, my Dad and I took the boat to the water. She fired up immediately and was pumping sufficient water. After I idled out of the marina, I put the hammer down. I was blown away! The 18ft Bluefin is absolutely a rocket. Every throttle setting is nice and consistent and smooth. After a little idle adjustment, I settled with about 1 and an 1/8 th turns out. So, I am very pleased and the customer is ecstatic. He was shocked that two marinas prior to me were unable to figure out the problem, and an 18 year old working out of his front yard was. I said I learned it on iboats! Thanks so much everyone, and hope I can be of assistance if anyone needs small Evinrude parts or help. I am always willing to help people of the similar interest.

Thanks again,
Forrest

Re: Thank You Very Much!!!!

I have a 1989 125 hp Force outboard motor, pretty simple to work on for the most part.
Congrats on your success with the 85!
