I wanted to introduce my self and and thank you guys for the help in learning about boating and what to look for in purchasing a boat.

My name is Kent and I have been lurking here since June of 2010, my wife had decided it was time to buy a boat to keep the family involved together.

I had never owned a boat before and so it was a steep learning curve trying to figure out what would best meet our needs for type of boat and what options I should be looking for since we would be buying a used boat and that is where this forum was a big help.

We decided a bow rider that could carry up to 6 people would best meet our needs with either the I/O V6 or V8 engines, my 18yo daughter only stipulated that it had to have a wake board tower.

We ended up finding a 2005 20' Blue water Mirage that was on consignment at the dealership it sold new out of, the boat sold orig for $35K W/ options it had ~50hrs on it and we picked it up for $17K, It has the VP 270HP 5.0GXI-SX power train, the thing is in like new condition.

The things on the boat that I've up graded or changed is as follows, new TFX control cables because there was some friction in the shift cable, new Teleflex control.

The things that I've changed on the trailer are, new UFP alum disc brake setup with a new surge actuator, changed the wiring over to a 7pin setup so it plugs directly into the truck and can actuate the reverse by pass solenoid, the stock chrome steel wheels had some corrosion on them so I installed some new 7 spoke alum wheel and new radials in place of the bias ply tires that were on there, the reason for changing the brakes was every time I would pull the boat out of the river it would slew rusty water all over the side of the boat and then I would have to clean it all over again when I got home, no more rusty water after the new disc bakes were installed.

Any way again just wanted to thank every one who has posted on here as I have read all of the post, it has been a great educational experience and look forward to contributing.

Regards,
Kent

Nice boat! Your right about boating and family. Some of the best times I can remember are from boating with my parents. Enjoy!

Re: Thank you!

Oh do I have to tell? well lets see there was the first time in unloading it and not removing the transom straps, "I wonder why this boat won't come off the trailer"? Hmmmm.

And the time were cruising down the Columbia river and notice that the GPS is off and I notice that the breaker is popped so I push it back in and it kills the whole boat, "thats not good", "now where did they hide the fuses"? Hey! I found the fuses honey, now which one is blown and what can we do with out? "Note to self bring extra fuses next time".

I'm sure there will be plenty more, but I'm trying to learn from others experience and not reinvent the wheel.

Kent

Re: Thank you!

Here are a few more photos prior to making any changes and getting it cleaned up, when I first got it I wasn't thrilled about the teak swim deck but after I removed it and sanded it down smooth and rubbed about 6 coats of teak oil into it, boy it sure looks classy on there now.

Kent

Congratulatuions and well done, Vf. You'll have a great time. Be sure to carefully consider safety aboard your new vessel. Spring for some really comfortable life vests for everyone on board so they won't mind wearing them. Have fun. :)
