Anyway, long time lurker, first post, and I just wanted to thank y'all for all the info and knowledge that led me to a simple solution to a presumed fatal engine issue. In short, I had almost no compression in the top cylinder, figured this '82 Johnson 70 was toast. But this forum and all of its incredibly helpful posters led me to figure out that it was just a blown head gasket. There are few better feelings than being ready to walk away from an engine (and boat) only to discover a very simple solution.
