I finally received the trim sending unit that you provided the part # for last week, replaced it with the current one, and everything seems to be working perfect now, so again a BIG THANKS!!!!!

Now for a REAL brain teaser. While I was in there working on my 93 Volvo 501B with a 290DP-C, I found a green wire hanging loose connected to nothing, even though it appeared it had been at some time. It is part of an assemby that IS connected to the metal part of the hose for the impeller, and then a second wire proceeded to the engine block from there branching out from it's "Y" configuration with the loose wire.

I realize this isn't much to go on, and that these green wires are probably just ground wires, but I thought I'd just through this test out at you, and see if you could come through again:) Thanks!!!!!!!!!!!!!
(BTW, this is the same boat that had the steering helmut replaced if that leads anywhere)

I think I know which wire you are talking about. It's the one on the transom shield and has 3 connection. It's for grounding the drive to the engine since it all sits in plastic busingings.
It hooks up from the steering arm, to the top bolt on the plastic water hose connection on the transom shield and then connects to a bolt on the engine flywheel cover.

that's the one, (YOU ARE GOOD!!!), but I'm not quite sure where you mean on the steering arm I should connect it. Can you provide a bit more info on the location to connect it, thanks :)

That's what I thought too maybe, so I tried it today when I was putting the sending unit back in, but the hole on the wire wasn't big enough for the bolt for the hold down clamp for the sending unit.
But if it does belong there, do you think having it not connected had anything to do with my sending unit going bad on me? Thanks!

Nope, won't affect how the sender works, it just for corrosion protection to bond the system together for the anodes.
