Hey guys, I don't remember just who all helped me out, but it was many of you.... and I wanted to take a minute or two to thank you for your advice.
I got my 85ELS73M running today after a couple weeks of beating my head against the wall. After new plugs, fresh fuel, carb over haul and more checks than I can remember she fired up today. If I had remembered the suggestion, when it was given about a week and a half ago (I am old so I forget just when things happen lol) I probally could have saved myself some grief and skinned knuckles (cotter pins and fly wheels hurt!).
After pretty much giving up, and calling one of the few marina's who will work on a thirty three year old motor, he was nice enough to take a few minutes from his three week backlog to ask me what was going on. I explained, and he asked me what all I checked and did. So I ran the list, he asked when the last time I ran her and I said about a year ago and he told me to fill a squirt bottle with some of the fuel mix from the tank and shoot it into the carbs with the butterflies wide open, then manually close the choke and try it (this is the suggestion that was made over a week ago and I forgot!). Well she fired on the first shot! Ran for a few seconds and died. So I gave her some more from the bottle, she started right up and purred like a kitten after a couple of minutes.
I still need to set the idle I think, and don't believe my tach but checking it out is another issue lol!
To bring this to an end... I just wanted to thank all you guys who took the time to read, think and reply! It is appreciated!
