Thank goodness for this forum. After struggling with the installation of the LU on a Mark 58A, I discovered this forum. A simple search led to MartyTN's very clear explanation. The shop manual seems to be written as a reminder for folks who already know what they're doing.<br /><br />Thanks, again!

It's the "Service Manual - Mercury Outboards 1965 and Prior." Don't get me wrong. It is a good thing to have but is not so clear in some sections. Copies become available on E-bay. It also can be purchased from Grubb's on-line.
