Thanks to those who have helped me so far. I managed to get the motor in a barrel and started. It ran surprisingly well. Still need to fine tune as i had trouble running it in gear at WOT as it was blowing water all over the place. But I was able to get it to run at about 3/4 and idle down w/o coughing or popping. But as I mentioned before I found a tank leak at a spot where the bottom of the tank looks like it was dropped on something. Looks like a stress crack, very small. Tried to wire wheel the outside and patch w/ original JB Weld with POR-15 in inside over spot (it is directly below the fill cap and I was able to clean, etch and seal using brushes from above). Filled the tank with about 2 cups of fuel and let it sit overnight...no leaks! But as soon as the motor was started and pressurized the tank the leak returned, albeit very slowly.
Now that I know the motor runs well as-is, I've decided to temporarily switch to a fuel pump. As I have no local access to used parts I'm going with the Mikuni pump conversion. I have a single line tank from a slightly newer Evinrude. My question is this:
Can I use the single line tank, fitting and hose while retaining the 2-line motor connector, using only one of the 2 barbs? I have no idea where to begin looking for a used single line motor-end fuel connector. I've found new for just under $50. I would like to eventually find a good 2 line tank and switch back, but this should at least let me get some use until then.
Again, thanks for the help you guys have given me!
