  OK guys, I've read the FAQ's, and quite a few posts on this one and still can't find the doggone model number. I've been to the page that lists year by number and know I'm looking for a 5 digit number that probablly starts with a 35---. I believe it's a mid '70's motor. The motor has been painted, the original tag is long gone. The only number I can come up with is 384602 on the left side looking from the rear. Here is my question. Where on the powerhead is the model number so I can get about the business of getting a manual? Thanks, KR

I went three pages back in the recent posts. Another guy was in my exact spot. I'll supply pics tomorrow. Thanks, KR

On a 70s vintage motor it's also on the welch plug on the power head. It's a little round quarter-sized disk, probably just fore of the flywheel.

:) :) :) Yes!! The welch plug gave it up. Turns out its a '73 18 horse. The Evinrude site was very helpful. Took some pokin around, thought I had a 25. Got the manual ordered. The fun begins. Thanks again, this site is very helpful. Reminds of another favorite of mine, http://www.pierandsurf.com. KR
