So Saturday I go the extra 10 miles out of my way to go to the ramp thats never that busy so I wouldnt have to deal with any idiots while Im trying to launch my boat. So after fighting the traffic and dealing with all the spring breakers on Siesta Key I get all the way to the south end of the island to find two empty ramps, sweeeet, right? No, I try to be thoughtfull of others even though Im the only one there I pull off to the side of the parking lot just before the ramp and begin my routine of getting the boat ready when this idiot from Ohio pulls his truck and trailor up right in front of the ramp completeley blocking it as I am putting in my last plug before I launch my boat. This guy spent twenty muinites loading his coolers and poles and kids toys and everything imaginable into his boat. Well patient as I am I cracked a cold one and had a smoke and waited as other boats were now coming in at the other ramp. So finaly this guy goes ahead and puts his boat in the water by himself even though he had just loaded enough gear for at least five people. The launching was actualey pretty qiuck compared to the preporation, he backed the boat down and tied it off at the end of the dock and went to park his truck, finaley my turn.I launch my boat quikley as to show him how that works and parked my truck next to his and when I get out I notice he is on the phone so I just let it go and get on my way. I got on my boat and started it up and as Im pulling away around his boat I notice its sitting pretty low in the water. Now normalley I would do what I could to help but in this situation all I could do was shout across the pakinglot that his boat was going down, he aknowleged me and I went on my way.Apparentley he thought I was just being funny though because I was out for about six hours and when I got back that silly man from Ohio was now joined by his brother and his very angry wife trying to figure out how to get his boat off the bottom of the bay enough to get his trailor back under it. I asked him what went wrong and he said that he was in a hurry to get out of my way and forgott to put the plug in and by the time he got off the phone it had sank. So the next time your at the ramp and someone holds you up just remember, dont get mad just take the extra time to make sure your ready for a fun safe day on the water, karma will take care of the rest.

"he said that he was in a hurry to get out of my way and forgott to put the plug in "

So it was your fault...

Of course it was my fault I should have been blocking the ramp when I was getting my boat ready and then he would have seen me put the plug in and known what to do.

We end up with lots of idiots form Ohio on vacation down here... I don't think its so much Ohio... as much as the vacationer part. They probably don't do this often and since they are spending money to be here think that all the locals should cater to them.

Obviously this man didn't boat very often or he would have known better than to load on the ramp.

in a hurry to get out if your way??????? why was he in your way in the 1st place, i dont get people some times, ramp near the house, big sign in parking lot have to drive right by it, says stop in lot to load and unload vessel prior to backing down ramp, i guess us locals can read, always seems to be some out of state knucklehead un/loading his boat on the ramp. i guess its vacationitis. or they see the water and forget all proper courtesy/protocol.

First off I dont have anything against people from Ohio its just that it seams like here in Florida every time I get behind someone thats going 35 in a 65 or someone cuts me off or almost hits me it seams like they all have Ohio tags. Maybe they just get confused when they come here but I know when I go out of town and get confused I pull over and figure it out.

Haha too funny, I had a similar thing happen on the river here in Winnipeg. I was crusing down the river at about 45mph all by my lonesome when I see I am gaining on a guy with one of those Seadoo jet drive sportboats. He's with his buddy showing him the dash and all the features of the boat and doing a fair clip themselves, he does a look over his shoulder and sees me coming and puts the hammer down to stay ahead of me...just as he slams the throttle down his rear hatch pops up. Not sure if there is a dash release or what but its sticking way up in the air so I put the hammer down myself to catch him and tell him he's is about to lose the hatch which by now was wobbling pretty good in the fast air.

As I pull up besides him I start waving my arm to get his attention and he looks over like I am crazy to be driving a small walleye boat at these speeds and he really puts the hammer down and slowly pulls away. At this point I said to myself "you can't fix stupid" so I slow down and let him be the hero with the fastest boat on the river that minute. By the next bend in the river our hero is long gone but floating in the middle of the channel is his rear cowl...pneumatic cylinders looked ripped out of their fixtures hinges bent to crap etc.

I caught him at the boat ramp looking at the rear of his boat with this serious look on his face and as I pull up to the next docking slip I call over and say "I seen your rear cowl floating downstream about 2 miles back, I was trying to tell you it was about to fall off when I pulled up besides you...what did you think I was doing? Wanting to race?". He doesn't say a word and walks away all pi$$ed off.

So I say to his buddy "Hey man, you might still be able to fish it out of the river...it was floating ok?". Just then our hero shows up backing the trailer down the ramp at a high rate of speed. I didn't say another word and I heard his buddy telling him they should go back and try to fish it out as they were loading.

They left without going to get the cowl and I wasn't going to hurt the heroes ego any more than it was by saying more than I already had. I don't know what those rear cowls cost but it has to be expensive, should have went and got it myself and put it up for sale in the local paper for $3000.:D He seemed like the "dealer financed" type so I didn't bother.

Oh well you can't fix stupid!:p

Great one Chuck. We have had a couple of them that have carved the water up around you while you are anchored and always want to race when you are under way that we have towed in later in the day when they are miles offshore and dead in the water. Very embarrassing for them !!

Hey now don't let the dumb a-holes ruin it for all us Ohioans. Not all of us can be that great of human beings like this wahoo sinking his (probably rental) boat, hahahahaha. Besides if we didn't come down there and mess things up for you, you wouldn't have great stories to tell. Have a great season.

See this is where being from NYC and the way the people around here act makes me like living up here.

There would be no waiting for the guy to move his boat. You block a boat ramp around here for more than 15-20 seconds and your *** will get handed to you. Sure it might start with just a horn beep, but if this man really spent 10 minutes getting himself ready, up here, that would have been grounds for a screaming match.

Usually the way I do it when this happens is:

My tow vehicle is 1000 dollar bronco with big tires and some rust with a crash bar on the front.

The boat is a 5000 dollar bayliner.

I will get as close as possible to you and your boat if I can squeeze by. What usually happens in the dummy realizes that I want to use the ramp and he can either move or sit there and watch me squeeze by with inches to spare.

Only one time has the person actually stayed in the spot (2 times people move their ****, 100's of other times people don't block the ramp). The time the person stayed my friend casually walked up to him after we squeezed by and told him that he's blocking a FOUR lane boat ramp and that he realizes that he might not be from around here. He then showed him the 50 or so parking space lot where he can get his stuff ready.

I'll never understand anyone who blocks a boat ramp.

It's the same thing when someone will block the road because they want to talk to their friend who is walking on the side, or in another car.

I never hesitate to give that person a gentle reminder "HONK" that you don't hold up traffic to say hi to your friend.

In the country if there's a conversation going on in the county road, we just stop and join the conversation. Usually that involves vacating our vehicle in the middle of the road.:D

If something important, like a farm tractor comes along, we get out of the way.

Yea I get that, a road that is hardly used.......fine.

A road that averages 4 or so cars a min (and anything about that)......it's a douchebag move to do that.
