Hi,

I need to paint the bottom of my boat and was wondering how to turn the darn thing over. the cap will be removed soon and the floor will also be gone. My dad has a bob cat fork lift so I was thinking raising the boat up vertically, then slowly lowering the boat upside down so i can paint and repair.

How does this idea sound? Will the boat fall apart if I do this? Is there a better, easier, and smarter way???

Any help or suggestions would be appreciated

Thanks,
Andy

If you're removing the deck and the floor and then saying that you want to turn the boat over, I would strong suggest you not do that. YOu have removed far too much structure from the boat for it to retain shape.

Most cases I have seen of flipped boats are there entire boat flipped. That way the whole structure is there to help keep it straight while you turn it over.

As for lifting and turning, if you can figure out where to put straps so the load is distributed and not slip off, then that can work. I have seen jobs where they built a wooden cage around the boat and the cage was used to 'cushion' the boat while it was turned on its side then top, etc.

I like the first picture in this link... that is probably what I will do when it is time to flip my boat..
