Hi, everyone. I have a 1995 120 force. I friend that knows engines tested the comp. and it was 120, 80, 150 ,150 and it has been blowing water out of the exaust. I thought that was normal. After it warms up it will push a stream out of the p hole. It always ran well and least I thought so and had good speed. Can I still run it and is it really messed up? My friend says it need a complete rebuild which would run about $2500-3000 and that's not counting what else he finds inside to replace.. He also said the engine is not worth fixing being a Force and that old. Are there used engines out there that weigh the same and fit the 1706 FS (17') that I have for that money? Thanks, Dave

Dave. The little pee hole is supposed to have water coming out of it that is
Normal. Also I would try a decarbon on that motor and see if that fixes some of
Compression numbers. May just have dirty sticky ring and a bunch of carbon in the combustion chambers. Hope this helps. Oh and if its running that good then I wouldn't rebuild just yet.

Re: The Fried Force

First off, get a new friend. He is not doing you any favors at that price and sounds like he really doesn't know squat about these outboards. Even if you were to bore all four cylinders and replace all four pistons, the parts and boring would cost less than 1000 dollars. And if you are at all able to handle a wrench, you can do the labor.

At 80 PSI, the bad cylinder is probably not damaged. Also note that the adjacent cylinder is a bit low. That suggests a bad head gasket. Remove the head and check the head gasket. If it is bad, that is only a 35-40 dollar fix. If the cylinder IS scored, then of course, it would cost a couple of hundred in parts to fix and labor depends upon who does it.

Can you run it as-is? probably, but you do run the real risk of doing more damage and increasing repair costs so I would not recommend it.

Again, the bad Force "reputation" comes into play! Again, your "friend" is wrong! Yes, the engine is worth fixing and that should be your first option before considering buying other engines. Look on this forum: Many people are running engines 20,30, and 40 years old. With outboards, age is not as great a factor as you may think. Your 1995 probably has many useful years left.

Re: The Fried Force

you say after it warms up it pees ...it should do that hot or cold and at idle and above ..do you have a water pump problem and have over heated one of the cylinders ? Maybe the rings are stuck?? ..always worth repairing as they are a simple motor ....1995 is young on here many are running motors from the 1960s and I have some from the 1930s still going.

Frank was posting at the same time as me ...yes he is right ... could be head gasket could be rings .but check that pump !!

Re: The Fried Force

Repeat after me: "I am not going to need a block!" At this time any possible or probable damage is not great enough to warrant that. However, if it sets your mind at ease, there are blocks for sale on the auctions and I even have a couple just waiting for someone who needs one.

Put your location in your info so others can see where you are and possibly help with finding a block you will not need.

As stated above: Try the decarb before you do anything else and see what the results are.
