What is the latest acceptable repair for the screw and nut lost forever? Are the parts still available? Epoxy or a metal sealer?

Okay, I'll bite... What are you talking about? What lost screw and nut are you dealing with? We are very good at answering most any question with experienced answers, but I don't know of any mind readers on these forums! :noidea:

Sorry, I should have been more specific. 1989 OMC Cobra 4.3. On the left side of the outdrive there is a bolt/screw located underneath the cobra emblem sticker. This goes directly in to the water passage from the impeller to the hose for the engine. Sometimes, people have removed that screw thinking it was an oil or water drain. The nut behind it falls in to the water passage and can usually be retrieved.
I just purchased this boat last year and I remember it had all the emblems on it. As it turns out someone had removed that screw and lost it jammed a wooden plug in the hole and put the sticker back on. That didn't last long. Now, water sprays out of the hole which greatly reduces the water flow to the engine.

Yes, I'm aware of that. I was wondering what the best way is to plug the hole from others that have been there, done that.

I can't find the parts. Neither Crowley or anyone else even list them at all. Apparently, no one makes replacements since it's not supposed to ever be removed.

ok take a look at this, the parts for this appear only on the later years of the original Cobras, and if you notice the picture is flipped, its supposed to face the other way!
Parts 9--14 in the diagram.
I have probably studied these parts diagrams more than most people and noticed this some years back. These parts don't appear on the earlier year diagrams, but the gear housings are all the same so no worries these parts will fit.

Just pull the outdrive split it and shake the metal threaded piece out and get a rubber washer and a stainless washer put back together this one has been in for I do not remember how many years now, used a allen screw to put back together.
Do not over tighten.

Hey I thought you sold your Cobra powered boat and bought a pontoon with a 4 stroke outboard!?
your solution is a good one!
I heard this is why new Cobras had the Cobra medallion over that screw, but after they fell off people thought it was some kind of drain.

Oh wait that was our first pontoon  Yes have a 20' suntracker with a 90 h.p. 4 stroke on it love it just service it end of the year no winterize just drop motor and the water is gone. Motor is so quite I have left it running after anchoring the realize it is still running. But something about the hull on the old Candia that I just love will see what happens.
