My first introductory post was 12/1/17 and my last was 4/18/18. In between lots of folks offered plenty of information, hints, and help as I rebuilt my '62 40 HP Lark. The short story is a long road trip at the beginning of the summer and then plenty of catch-up duties prevented me from ever getting the Cadillac/Lark rig in the water. The completed motor still sits on a stand in my basement. It was built with plenty of petroleum jelly in the new bearings and seals so I'm just going to have to wait another season for start-up. Now and then I turn the motor a bit to rotate the impeller. I just spent some time reading through some of my threads and again wanted to thank all the contributors. I promised not to abandon the forum and to let everyone who helped know what the final result was and I will do that, but it will have to be next summer for that. Hope everyone had a good season. - Pete

Pics always appreciated when you get back to it.

Your reference to petroleum jelly reminded me of a friend who swore by Vagisil for lube — know it is compatible with latex, but hadn’t heard of using it in an outboard. I asked him once if he ever confused Permatex for Vagisil in the bedroom — said he never did, but said he sometimes stored small outboard bits and pieces in condoms (presumably new condoms, but I didn’t dare ask.) He was a Scotsman, and probably as thrifty as my Dutch ancestors.
