Well guys, 1 day after the adjuster met with me, she called me back. First let me tell you that I improperly insured my boat, a mistake I will never make again, and hopefully you all will make sure you don't do as well. I insured the boat for an agreed cash value, basicly what the Sales agreement had on it. I never realized that contents of the boat has to be written as a rider on the policy, or jack up your agreed cash value to cover them. I am out between 3 and 4 thousand from what I lost that I added to the boat. If I had added the camper inclosure after the sale, instead of it being part of the sale, that amount could have easily doubled! The adjuster I had was very knowledgable, professional, but at the same time very compasionate! She even sat with me going over the list of what I had lost from contents telling me what I could file a claim with my home owners insurance to get some of my loss back!

Here is what she got for me:
Boat and motor was a total loss, trailer was "boat specific", so it was also written as a loss. Myself and club members did the "Rescue" operation of getting it rited, and out of the water, which I got $500.00 for. She had the deductable waved as it was a total loss, which is another $500.00. She had determined that the recovery of the loss was going to be very expensive and asked me this question.

Do I know anybody that in exchange for everything, boat motor and trailer, that would come in and get rid of everything, so they could close the case! I told her consider it done! I have all ready had 2 people asking about buying the hull/deck, I know 1 guy is thinking of making a floating work platform out of it. I am looking to see if the motor is salvageable, if not, I will be able to part it out, and I have a 27' dual axle, galvanized trailer with surge brakes! The furniture is also in very good shape considering, so I will be able to sell that, I have taken both ladders off of it, plus things I am not thinking of at this moment.

Needless to say, I am VERY happy with the treatment from the insurance adjuster (independant), and insurance company!(State Farm)

Edited: Moderator1

Soliocitations are not allowed here.

You can place an ad here.

http://www.iboats.com/boats/marine--1/thrifties--107/

I hope everything turns out OK for you.
That engine should be fine,it should have been dried out, pumped out and oiled up as soon as it came out of the river though.
River silt might play havoc with those new fangled electronics though.
Good Luck

Mod 1, I asked for the details so perhaps I could learn somthing from his loss. I also carry that insurance and find it comferting that they are apperantly trustworthy, somthing that is nice to know without having to file a claim.

Bill, getting the salvage should help you come out but make sure for certian you can pull it off. commercial salvage gets expensive in a hurry. Sounds like the worst is behind ya and the #'s are getting better.

The pontoons and deck I am donating to the boat club. We are going to make a floating work platform out of it! They have made me an offer on the motor as is also, but I haven't decided if I want to try to save it yet. I am pulling the furniture off to sell, along with the ladders and what ever else I can find to sell. Hopefully this will help against my contents losses.

I am still looking into that. Seems as though it could become a very involved deal. It is apparently a private club, headed by one guy, on leased property, with no signed lease for this year. The owner of the land is a high profile, local business man with big money, and a lot of influence. I have never believed in the suing games that go on, and if I can recoup my losses without going there, I will. If I have to, I see major Court battles, expensive lawyer fees, and any money I would get would be a long way down the road. Is it really worth it all, just to line a lawyers pocket a little more?

I thought that all contents on the boat can be filed under homeowners. What exactly is not covered? I might be undercovered as well. Glad to here that things are getting resolved for you, but how long until you can be back on the water? Thats gotta be the worst part.

Anything "boat specific"is not coverd. Anything you file under your homeowners must be able to be used in the home. For example, towels, clothes, cleaning supplies, tools, folding chairs. Things like life jackets, fishfinders, anchors are not.

Bill,Hang in there ,you will get thru all this eventually.Very unfortunate.Just wondering about the insurance, did she happen to mention what kind you need to cover all the "essentials" like life jackets, fish finder etc.I will be getting insurance for my boat shortly and wonder what I should ask for.

Catchem, you want to either add a rider to cover boat contents, or bump up you "agreed cash value" to enough over your boat cost to cover your contents. Your going to want MINIMUM $5,000.00 contents coverage, as boat items add up very quickly!

Well Bixll, I guess it could have been worse, glad you got the basic package covered, that beats a sharp stick in the eye. What are your plans are you going for another toon? If you do you might consider a fridge, Crown sure is good cold. I think I would consider selling the motor, once sunk there can be all kinds of problems. Good luck with your next boat.

It sound's like a good deal. With a little luck you will be made whole with a bit of effort and very little out of the old check book. Sounds like you have a winner in your insurance adjuster.

Good luck and hopefully you will be on the water soon enough to enjoy most of the summer.
