i was reading the article about the 9.9 and 15 hp johnson -evinrude outboards done by the mechanist,
it mentions a very intersting fact.:
this is that:
the only diference between the 9.9 and the 15 hp
from 1974 thrue 1980 were exacly the same Exept the carburator.....
...................
does this mean i can replace the carb on my 9.9 1974 with a carb from a 15 and get the performance of the 15 .
can this be done without doing anything else than just replacing the carb.??
if so..that is cool!!! i been wanting a 15 hp..
probably dont have to sell my near mint condition 9.9 electric satrt 1974 johnson.

luis

Morning luis...on the original 9.9's (1974) that's all ya do is replace the carb. Later versions also had shims placed on the reeds and a tuned exhaust pipe for the 15's. I don't think the 15 carb for your year is available anymore from Bombardier. You may have to hunt around for one. Maybe one of he other guys on the forum can point ya in the right direction.

OBJim :D
