The motor seems to have more gunt left in it at full throttle

Hi all,<br /><br /> I have an evinrude 90 approx. 10 years old. It has the correct prop and the butterflies are wide open in the carburettors at full throttle, the boat planes correctly, the fuel mix is right, the air intake is correct, it is fitted to a 15 foot fiberglass half cabin, previous motor was a 85HP Chrylser, boat only takes 2-3 adults (250KG) and the motor is fitted correctely.<br /><br /> The problem is that the motor feels like it has more power left in it when the throtle is wide open and that I am unable to extract extra power, in other words I consider that it should be able to go another 5 knots faster.<br /><br /> <br /><br /> Any ideas???????<br /> or am I dreaming????????????<br /><br /> --------------------<br /> Cheers<br /><br /> Omega Man

don't we all wish we had that problem. i'd pick up a manual first. there are several linkage adjustments you can make to ensure you're getting the most out of the engine. then there is the whole prop issue and whether you are running the rpms you should be. good luck-

A tachometer would be a worthwhile investment. This one gauge can tell you loads about the condition of the engine and wether or not she's doing all she can.

By what mechanism are you able to determine that the engine has more umphhff left but is unwilling to give it to you? Is this a psychic connection, or is it based on previous performance with this same boat/motor combo that has now changed? How can you feel the absence of power? If you don't have a tach how do you know there should be more revs left, by the sound of the engine, by the boat speed?
