I have searched the forum and internet and can find no unbiased reviews on this product. There also doesn't look to be any real protection to the propeller when backing up. Does anyone know if this thing really works?

(couldn't find it for sale on iboats or I would have posted that link)

Re: The Prop Guard

They actually mentioned that yesterday at my safety course. Interesting.

Ayuh,... I suppose if you plan on Dredging everyday, it might be alright...

Otherwise, dragging the extra hardware through the water, has really gotta cut any efficencies...

...or you could just stay in the deep part.

Sometimes staying in the deep parts is not possible especially when launching or retrieving a boat on/off the trailer. The local boat ramp in my area is not built properly so its quite easy for someone to hit bottom or rocks during this time. To further add to the problem...there are no docks at this locaiton so you have to start and stop the engine right at the edge where water meets the road or rock meets prop. :-(

With a little headway, trim or lift your motor up and out of harms way until you nudge the dock, shore, ramp or whatever.

If you use this ramp area frequently, you should know where the rocks are and how far out you have to lift the motor when gliding up.....motor lifted up.

Get a pushpole, paddle, oar, or anything to push you off during launch, until the water is deep enough to lower the motor.

I do this everytime I launch at my home ramp. Piece of cake really.

Ditto the paddle, you should have one inboard anyway.

Re: The Prop Guard

Wouldnt something like this ruin an outdrive if the prop kept spinning while ramming against a rock? I've hit things before and my engine usually shuts off because the prop hit something. With this little gadget, I could see the prop keep spinning and maybe cause something to bend? I have no idea, I'm not a boat guy in the least lol.
