I have a 15 foot pontoon boat . 7 foot beam, dry weight about 800 pounds. It has a 15 hp mercury 4 stroke. It came with a 9 pitch 3 blade. I bought a 7 pitch 4 blade . both seem to me to be not what I`m looking 4 . I think it should go faster then what it does. I rented a 16 footer with a 9.9 that went faster. Should I go with a high thrust prop? If so would I want a 5 or 7 pitch. Thanks for any help.

you need to get a tach and hook it up, (some timing lights have tachs on them) need to know your RPM. the 9.9 was probably a 2 stroke, and probably pushing closer to 15HP than 10. how fast does 9.9 push a 16' pontoon anyway??

Thanks SparkieBoat. I`ll have to a tach hooked up and go from there. Not sure what the mph was on the 16 footer but I`m positive that it was faster than my boat.

well different boats can preform way different. So it is hard to judge like that. first off you need hard data, like GPS speed, weight, pontoon size...then you can begin to compare..If I ever get another toon it will be a tri-toon, they glide across the water and get good speed with low HP. and handle over load weights.

I`ll get my specs and do some homework on it. Thanks SparkieBoat.

I'm doing my homework on Prop pitch as well at the moment. from what i have read you should find out the RPMs your engine is recommended to run at then find a prop that could meet that, Higher pitch lower RPM and vice verse. Too high or low RPM can damage the engine and your wasting fuel.

Not sure on high thrust though?

Well I ordered a portable tach for it. So when I get to camp I`ll have to check that out and post what i found out.
