I have a "99 Evinrude 150 Ocean Pro Fitch Fuel Injected Motor. In the past few months, there have been changes by Evinrude in Service Notices that changed the spark plugs. I am having a few problems with this engine, and want to make sure I buy the right spark plug. Which plug do I need to purchase?

Re: The Right Spark Plugs?

You have to look at the silver EPA lable just below your model and serial number tag. If it calls for Champion XC12PEP, then you have the updated heads with the deflector in them. If it says NGK's or 7712's or something else, you may have the old style heads or someone did not update the tag. You will need someone familiar with FICHT to see which ones you have. The old heads, without the deflector, now are supposed to use Champion 7712. The QC12PEP, used on the 200-250 FICHTS, works well if the 7712's foul out often.

Make sure the spark plugs are correctly indexed too (do NOT use shims).<br /><br />-John
