i just pulled off the flywheel on my 93 jonny 50hp to get to the bottom of my no spark on a cyl. Bad timer base according to my volt/ohmeter. But i noticed some cracks on the stator (my model is a one peice stator), they arent that big, but it makes me wonder if it's worth replacing while the flywheel's already off. it was giving off good spark on the functional cyl before i took it apart. Is this indicative that a meltdown isnt far off, or is it not that big of a deal as long as its functional? Also upon getting the wheel off i found a piece of metal, it looks like one of the clips that holds the timer base down, but its pretty mangled. The only three clips its supposed to have were all in great condition in their places, im thinkin maybe the timer base may have been replaced before, but by some DA. outside of the few scratches i inadvertantly put on the timer base re-tapping the three threads to pull the flywheel off the TB unit itself looked alright, could that piece of metal messed up the TB without inflicting surface damage to the unit? thanks for the input guys, you;re all awesome.
