 Hi every 1 i have a 1985 Thundercraft OMC 3.8 V6 stern drive, that i just purchasted, its my new project it was pushed into some rocks during a pretty bad storm this put some holes in the hull the only 1 im more concerned about repairing is about a 10ft. long 1/8th to 1/2inch. at its widest point crack going down the bottom of the hull its located if ur facing the front of the boat the crack would b about 2ft. to the left of the center of the bottom ive been reading a lot of the info on this site ive learned a lot but i really could not find 1 that had such a large crack like my boat, so what i need help with is knowing the strongest way to do this
i want to use poly resin rather then epoxy so i was needing to know what oz. of woven roven i should use im purchasing my materials soon, can i use mat for the first layer that would be seen from the exterior of the boat the out side of the hull so i can paint a more smooth suface, and then for the second layer use woven roven, and then 3rd. layer so on, i am of course glassing from the inside of the hull, how thick should i have for the final repair, what is a good strong staggering techneac that i should use for placing the fiberglass fiber along the 10ft. long crack from the inside and layering thickness and making it smooth only to the outside of the boat so i can paint it with boat paint i dont care if its course on the inside of the hull , how should i prepair the old fiberglass how much should i cut out theres really not any fiber rott to speak of, should i sand it and clean it with acetone befor laying the new glass ???

Im very very appreciative to any help with this large repair im trying to do it right the first time lol hopefully Thanks guys !!!!

ps. does any 1 know of a web site to get the glassing materials cheap?? thanks agian !!!

First start by reading more threads here, there are many on doing glass work and it will give you confidence your ability to do it. Reading them will also give you an idea of the materials needed and how to use them.

You have a pretty good idea of what needs to be done, but it will be hard to make solid recommendations without a few pics of the damage. There will most be likely hidden damage if the boat took a beating on the rocks that could make a 10' long crack. But fixing a 10' crack is about the same as a 1' crack, just scaled up.

Its good it doesn't have any "fiber rott" whatever that is, should make it easier.
