I have an old Starcraft of unknown age and linage. My son has named it "the Ugly Duckling." If you are on the waters around Vancouver Island you may hear us on the radio.
The outboard is a 1984 90 HP Evinrude VRO so I am assuming the boat is older than that. It looks much like the 1982 SS 181 I saw in the brochures and the measurements are about right. The length is 18 1/2 feet and the beam is 6' 9." I got it last year and we have been repairing and re-outfitting it. I have been told that some time in the past it was an inboard that was converted to an outboard.
The problem I am trying to solve is with the internal aluminum fuel tank. I does not leak and holds 30 gallons. The problem I am having is if it is to full it tends to spew fuel out the vent line and even out of the fill tube when it heats up and the front of the tank is lower than the back of the tank. I am wondering if adding a vent line to the back of the fuel tank would eliminate the problem.
This should probably be a separate post but I will sneak it in here. I also have an old Sea Hawk VFH made by Unimatrics. It is a strong radio and I am able to talk with Port Angeles Coast Guard about 120 miles away. The problem is the radio does not have a user manual with it. It is on US channels which does not help me when I am wanting to talk with other Canadian fishing boats on around Vancouver Island. How do a change the channels to International or Canadian Channels?
