Three days ago a mate phoned informing me of a garage workbench that was going for free if I wanted it.
I went and uplifted the bench with my brothers truck and the owner was a guy I'd worked with for 10 years prior to his retirement. He was suffering from Alzhimers disease and didn't recognise me. His wife did.
When we drove away my brother remarked about karma.
Yesterday the bloke that put me onto the bench threw a cam belt in his 4x4 on the way to the airport to pick up a VIP. He called for help and we sorted him out.
It just struck me how valuable friends are in this day and age when people take a lot for granted, or have the gimme, gimme, gimme attitude!
To give without forthought of recieving is in itself a valuable gift!!
Ross

Re: The value of friends

That's so right Ross.

I was thinking a similar thing the other day at a friend's funeral. After you're gone, what do people remember you by ?

My friend had obviously had a very positive effect on many people's lives, including my own. That was evident as there were so many people from all walks of life that turned up to pay their last respects.

At the end of the day, what's life all about?

Howdy, Friends.

Well said.

Someone once said, "To have a friend, be one." :)

My Grandpa told me to always:

"Do unto others as you would have them do unto you"

"give someone respect first...even if you don't know them....Most folks will appriceate being treated that way and return it in kind."

"The nice guy finishes last....bull, the nice guy earned what he has and will be able to hold his head up no matter where he goes and has not burned any bridges on the way....What good is it to have everything when nobody likes you enough to share in your good fourtune."

"What goes around comes around.....good and bad....why not pad the bet"

"two heads are better than one....but a group of good freinds is priceless"

"A job well done is not just a job that's finished....Its a signature"

"Haveing class is not being better than someone elese....It shows manners and the only ones that will scorn you for it are the ones that don't have it"

Those are not just words....They are good advice from a great and well respected man who now lives in my heart and in my actions.

Derwood.

Hi 62 Kiwi,

"I was thinking a similar thing the other day at a friend's funeral. After you're gone, what do people remember you by ?"

My father said, "when friends pass away they leave a big gap", how right he was.
I trust your friend left a big gap.
New friends will endevour to fill that gap, and thus will you remember the last one!
I think that's great!
Ross
