My brother in law told me a story recently I just had to share. I was not there so I don't know the outcome. My brother in law is afraid of the water and doesn't own a boat. he has ridden with me once, but did not let go of the railing the entire trip.
Brother in law was walking with future wife #4 around the lake. When they got to the boat ramp they stopped to sit on the dock for a little bit. While there they watched a couple of college kids unload a boat they claimed was new to them. He said it took them about 30 minutes to get it in the water with all of the trouble. Then another 30 minutes to get it to start. They then motored out into the lake loaded with cooler, fishing gear and whatever. As her and girlfriend started walking away from the dock they heard some yelling, turned in time to see these guys turning their boat around toward the dock. They were about 100 yards out, and the boat was sitting pretty low in the water. As they turned, they apparently opened the throttle and the engine killed. He said one was trying to start tyhe engine, the other was bailing water with his hands as fast as he could splash. Within a few minutes the boat was under with only a few feet of the bow pointing almost straight up in the air. The two were floating along in their life jackets trying to hang onto the bow when along came another boat. This boat he said was also loaded with some college age kids. They motored up to the sinking boat and quickly rescued the fishing equipment, coolers and life jackets that were floating. After saving these important items, they sped off toward the dock, leaving the two in the water. My brother in law likes to fight more than he likes to breath, so he went to the dock and challenged the "rescue" boat causing them to turn and speed off to the other side of the lake. My brother in law doesn't have a cell phone, the dock is empty at that time, and he is a sinker not a swimmer so he does the only thing he knows, he waits for the two to reach the dock.
I never did hear the ending of this story, or why the boat sank but it would be enough to upset a guy. Taking a mans fishing gear is about as bad as taking his remote control!
