Theoretical top speed estimate

I have an '88 Stratos 189V F+S with an '88 200hp Johnson v-6 looper. The boat title says it weighs 1500ish pounds empty. I have a Shooter SS 4 blade prop, 25" pitch. Does anyone have a feel for what top speed would be for this rig with 2 people and minimal gear?

Re: Theoretical top speed estimate

depends on if the 1988 hull is holding any water in the foam.

What rpm are you running at WOT?
A 4 blade 25 pitch prop is pretty big.
Maybe repost in the prop forum.

If you get into the 5800 range, low to mid 60's shouldn't be much of a problem, even with 10 - 12% slip. You're in about the right pitch range but a Shooter wouldn't be my first choice for that hull. Set up is pretty critical on that hull but it should respond well.

Is it the 4 blade that you don't like, or something specific to the Shooter brand? The prop came on the boat, and I'm thinking that it should perform better, as well.

If you are spinning the 25P Shooter at near 5,500, then you should try a 26 Raker three blade. You should have no problem hitting 65+ MPH with that boat. Start with the engine around 3 1/2" below pad!

On that type boat we've had much better luck with a bow lifting prop. If it were me I'd start with a Raker like LD suggested or even better yet, a Turbo Lightning.

We're assuming you have a jackplate too.
