thermastat cant be found? help me?

j140txccm ser_g7743284 do i need to pull the plastic casing apart to get to where the therm is at. internet shows no therms for a 1988 140 hp johnson was i told the wrong yr. these therms are like plastic cones screwed into a plate with a rubber gasket? please help me locate them # on them is 08lu.?

You will need to pull the thermostat cover to access them on the cylinder head. T stat assembly part number 0434137, vernatherm part number 0394411, Tstat cup part number 0330273, DIAPHRAGM part number 0394408 and the spring of course too.

all understood i have the therms in front of me do i have to take the plastic cones apart? it looks like a full assembly item all cased into one unit?need more details?
