hello,where can i find the thermastat on a 1984 johnson 35?i can find it in my manual.is it hard to replace? also my drain and vent (lower unit dont have gaskets on then.someone told me that i should add a sealent to then.is he right? thanks

Hi Richard you have gaskets on your drain /vent plugs unless it has a place for a o-ring don't use sealeant

The thermostat on that engine is under the water jacket cover plate(on the cylinder head).<br /><br />It's harder than most, but still just nuts and bolts. <br />Parts list:<br />434841 T-stat<br />329319 Gasket<br />327674 Gasket<br />328051 Spring <br /><br /><br />As for the drain/fill screws. Do not add sealant.<br />Install the proper gaskets there. 311598

if your drain plugs use orings they will have a face groove in them. if they have a face groove use orings, if they have a raised ridge but otherwise flat they use nylon washers if they are completely smooth they are old as dirt but use a paper gasket. I see all types in all years sometimes.<br /> but the proper seal must be used with the proper plug or it will leak. do not use any sealer of any kind on the drain and fill plugs. do make sure you retrieve any old washers/gaskets if they did not come out with the plugs. if you double them it usually leaks. sometimes they stick in the seal pocket.
