My yamaha dealer says the 140 degree thermostat they ordered is discontinued. I can't find one under 160 anywhere. What do i do now? Has anyone used a thermostat restrictor plate in place of a thermostat? If so do they work?

Exactly what engine, Year, model number, etc. are you looking for a thermostat for.

Just a guess, but being a GM based motor, shouldnt one from a Merc do the same thing.Cant see the therm being physically different for a yam.

Yes, you need a thermostat, without it, part of your engine will be cooler, The part around the temp sender. the back of the engine will overheat and you will never no it.

Yes, that thermostat (YSC-10090-00-AC) is NLA from Yamaha. I really don't know anything about Yamaha IO engines, so can't even tell you what a good replacement is.

With any luck, Capt Ken will see this and help you out.

Not sure the thermostat is the same size as a Merc or a Chevy. due to it being in a Yamaha thermostat housing.

#28 is the thermostat

The yamaha thermostats are longer because the housing is taller and that allows it to sit farther down. I have a Merc 160 in now but its not working correctly. My local race shop has the restrictor plates that take place of a thermostat, so I'll go pick one up a try it. Just not sure what to try.
