Ok, this question concerns the direction the thermostat gets inserted into the housing. Same engine as question #1, 1985 Mercruiser 260, raw water cooled (not the closed system).
Does the thermostat go in where the side with the springs faces upwards (into the V thing), like the 1st photo, or does the spring side go down into the base of the housing like the 2nd photo?
