Thermostat housing

Hello all,

I'm repowering my 89 bayliner from a 2.3L to a 5.7L. I've almost got the engine together and realized today that I don't have a thermostat housing. I believe that I need this one: http://ebasicpower.com/pc/BAROMC-29-314810/OMC7B/Housing,+Thermostat,+Upper,+OMC+V6+&+V8+Log+Style

I wanted to check and see if that's the right one before I order it. I'm starting with nothing, so I don't have anything to look at to make sure I get the right one. If that is the correct housing, are there two pieces (upper and lower), or is that the only thing I need? The picture isn't great, so it's kind of hard to tell. If anyone could shime in and let me know, I'd appreciate it.

Also, if anyone has a pic of what the hose routing looks like on a 350, that'd be very helpful too.

Thanks,

Jeremy

Re: Thermostat housing

Sure hope you have a different outdrive for that engine. Not only is the gear ratio way wrong, but the drive for the 2.3 is a lot smaller and will not put up with the HP and torque of a 5.7

Yeah I know. I'm not super worried about the gear ratio at the moment. I'll make up what I can with a prop and live with a lower top speed. Honestly, I'm not really worried about the outdrive at all. We don't cruise at top speed much and hardly ever pull anything. We mostly putter from point A to point B and then float/swim/etc. If and when the outdrive blows up, then I'll go from there.

Re: Thermostat housing

If your using center risers. I would recommend GLM's t-stat housing part #13231.

The (T) fitting with the balls is plumbed to a fitting in the front of the risers. The two small fittings on the cover plumb to a fitting in the bottom of each manifolds. The largeest of the two large fittings is plumbed to the engines circulating pump (the one mounted to the front of the engine) and the other is the connection for your raw water inlet.

I guess I should hang on to my King Cobra drive a little longer so it's available if needed....................

Thanks for the info. That sucker sure isn't cheap! Best price I could fine seems to be around $165.

Just to clarify though, the manifolds I'm using have a port for a fitting at the front and rear of each manifold. I don't think there's anything on the bottom. The risers (they are centers) have several ports for fittings, but they're all blocked off. The place I bought the manifolds from included what they said were all the fittings I'd need. This consists of two threaded 90 degree elbows for pipe and two adapters for two petcocks. So it looks like they only want one water inlet and the other port is for a petcock. I'm going to double check this with the place I bought it from, but does that sound right? Most of the other manifolds I've seen have multiple inlets, so just having a single doesn't seem right to me.

Thanks again,

Jeremy

Re: Thermostat housing

Sorry for all the questions, but will that housing I linked to in my first post work or is it completely the wrong thing? The only reason I ask is because I can get a used one for cheap. It has the upper and lower pieces and will fit a 350, I just don't know if the upper log-type will work properly with my manifolds.

Thanks again,

Jeremy
