Hello. I was just wondering if I need to keep the thermostat in my 50 HP force motor. It was all gunked up and not operating properly, so I removed it. Now the water comming out seems to be more, and cooler. Good thing or bad ? Please let me know. Thanks, Dave

Re: Thermostat in Force 50 HP

It is a vital piece. Replace it. They cost only 9-15 bucks depending upon where it is purchased. But price asside, it regulates and equalizes the block temperature. Without the tstat, some areas will overheat while other areas run too cool. Too hot, and you know what happens.. Too cool can cause carbon to form in the exaust areas rapidly.
It's ok to test, but be sure to replace it asap. Best to change it with the impeller and plugs between 40-80hours, depending upon normal RPMs operated at.

Re: Thermostat in Force 50 HP

My water wasn't spitting out like it had been so the mechanic said I needed to replace the thermostat and he did. Ran it 4-5 times and it had running reel good. This weekend I noticed the water was bareley coming out then stopped coming out of the bypass hose on top of the block. There was water still coming out of the back of the engine with the exhaust but I limped it back into the dock. I cleaned fish then went to start the motor nothing. The starter would barely engage. I thought I may have seized the motor up. Well all that was was a loose battery connection, problem 1 solved. But, would that loose battery connecting make the thermostat stop working and not pump water. I thought the impeller ran off the engine. I need help in solving this problem. Bad thermostat? or do I need a new impeller? Thanks for your response.
