Working on a 1982 Evinrude 35. Head was ruined and has been replaced (with head that matches all water jacket and bolt hole locations). 1982 Diagram shows (in order) thermostat, seal, retainer for seal, and spring. 1984-on shows (in order) seal, thermostat, spring. I bought new thermostat, seal and spring. I don't know what year the head itself is so am in a quandry as to which installation procedure to use. I don't know the year of the head.

Great question. I'm at work and will do a "side by side" when I get home. Thank you for the comment.

Okay, I checked the seats. The main difference is that the original is too salt pitted to match with the freshwater Ky Lake version. The freshwater head has a slight angle, like a valve seat, at the top of the thermostat hole.

Thanx again

Re: Thermostat Install on 35 hp

Spent a long while with parts book and dealer. I changed to the under the thermostat rubber washer and did away with the seal retainer. My factory manual was for 1986 and that year was different.
Thanks for your help and that of the good folks at Sutherland Marine in Palm Harbor!!
